The Château de Mayragues is one of the few surviving examples of the local fortified architecture with its half timbered overhanging gallery which surrounds the top of the buiding. It was built in the XII and XVII centuries of the local creamy coloured limestone.
With its magnificent pigeon loft standing on four columns, typical of the Languedoc area, and its formal box garden, the château and its organic (bio-dynamic) vineyard are largely surounded by woods and enjoy a protected environment - the ideal situation for the summer concerts which have been taking place for the last 20 years.
The château and the pigeon loft are listed as Historic Monuments, and have been lovingly restored during 35 years using the traditional materials of lime and sand, wood and hemp. In 1998, the Château de Mayragues was awarded the Grand Prix (the top national prize) des Vieilles Maisons Françaises for the restoration..
Access to the B&B rooms is by way of the half timbered gallery from where there is a panoramic view of the formal garden, the vines, fields and woods. The rooms are attractively furnished with modern en-suite bathrooms. Enjoy tasting the organic (bio dynamic) wines of the domain.
