Path of the lavoirs

Cahuzac sur Vère is a charming little village nestling on the banks of the River Vère. Take the trail to discover the local heritage and the beautiful rolling countryside on the Gaillacois hillsides.

The wash-houses had a social role, and were known as the ‘women's parliament’. They were used not only to wash clothes, but above all to rinse them. Each family was allocated the use of a washhouse. You can see three of them along the route.
‘Granejouls’ comes from ‘Grenier de Jules’. The construction of the Toulouse-Capdenac railway brought to light a number of Roman-era infrastructures, which are on display at the Musée St Raymond in Toulouse.
You'll see the Cahuzac viaduct, commissioned in 1864 to allow trains to cross the valley. It is 378.50m long and has 19 arches.
